Djamel Khali – General Manager 

Geo-politics around the world are creating whip-saw effects in Fertilizer, oil, and grain prices. Availability should be ok going into spring for the US, but inventories of fertilizer will continue to be on the low end. Even if the Iran issue gets straightened out there will be a long tail on product movement resets around the world. At this point, I do not see any big price resets coming for the next planning season (Although they should be!). Prepay season was very strong, a sign that planning will almost always pay off. We have rolled out our financing program for the upcoming crop year as well! We will be offering 4% financing for any products purchased now until the end of February. We are committed to helping our owners through these uncertain times and will be there to assist in any way that we can! Thank you for your trust in FCA & Vision Ag! 

Andy Weber – Feed Division Manager  

We would like to congratulate Tierney Greiner for top rate of gain of 4.45 pounds per day and top ten individual market beef carcass champion. She used the Hubbard Blueprint program on her calf that provides 100% organic trace minerals (like Biopex and SelPlex) that closely resemble the minerals found in plants leading to easier absorption and storage by the animal which leads to better growth, efficiency, and improved immunity. I would like to thank all our 4-H and FFA members for doing a standout job of showing and caring for their livestock during the county fairs and the Iowa State Fair. On another note, I learned Ava Long from Mahaska Livestock Special Interest Club, received Champion Breeding Meat Doe and Grand Champion 4-H Market Whether at the Iowa State Fair. Her Champion sold at the Sale of Champions on Saturday August 22 for a record setting $55,000. Ava's family bought their feed through Blake Moeller, one of our Stockport location salesmen. They used Show-Rite from Hubbard. As always, thank you for your business.  

Dave Hyman – Broadway Service Center Manager 

Harvest time is almost here! Starting September 12, Broadway Service Center will be open again on Saturday mornings from 7am – 12pm through harvest for all your service call and tire needs. Sarah Hora – FCA Grain Originator 

Grain markets were on a bit of a roller coaster during the month of August. In the latest USDA WASDE report, projected yields came in lower than expected. Corn yield was in lower than expected. Corn yield was estimated at 180.70 bushels per acre (BPA), down from the previous month's estimate at 183 BPA. Soybean yield was projected at 52.70 BPA, compared with July's estimate at 53.00 BPA. The lower projections sparked rallies across grain futures. The Pro Farmer Crop Tour also took place last month, providing another perspective on this year's crop potential. The tour estimated the national average corn yield at 173.20 BPA, 7.50 BPA below the USDA's revised figure. Conversely, Pro Farmer estimated the national soybean yield at 53.3 BPA, 0.60 BPA higher than the WASDE figure. With differing sets of projections, it will be interesting to see which estimate comes closest to the final numbers once harvest is complete. As we head into harvest, now is the time to get your logistics, store, and marketing plans in order. With the recent rainfall in our area, our customers are feeling better about the yield on both corn and soybeans. Both crops were showing a fair amount of stress from the heat and dry weather. Overall, I think the corn looks inconsistent. It seems that planting conditions are driving the difference. Disease pressure has remained fairly light, but pollination issues along with kernel abortion are concerning. The soybeans fought off some early insect pressure and look pretty healthy. With the current global unrest, it will certainly be an interesting year for planning inputs and marketing. With this in mind, please have a conversation with your local Vision Ag Sales agronomist about current trends, seed technology, variable rate application, and other information to influence the constant fluctuation of our economy. As summer winds down, we know that harvest season is not far behind. Corn and soybeans both look to have great yield potential in our trade area. Crop disease pressure has been lower than expected this season. Crops treated with fungicides will likely have improved yields due to the "crop health" benefits associated with fungicides, even in low disease pressure seasons.
